05Jul – Cruisin’ the Iron Gates

Sailing up to the Danube gorge through the Iron Gates hydroelectric dams and locks

Of course, lest we forget who built 50% of this project, a wee reminder has been placed on the adjacent hillside. Unfortunately, his counterpart in Romania was unable to do the same.

Sailing through the geological wonder that is the Danube gorge or Iron Gates

After sailing through what is often called the most beautiful stretch of the Danube, we arrived at our next port of call, Donji Milanovic in Serbia.

Our arrival coincided with dinner, so we dined.

Then, to facilitate digestion (Yeah, sure!), we took a little twilight hike into town. Not surprisingly, we ran in to many familiar faces who had opted to do the same just a few blocks in from the riverfront. Here, on a Serbian street corner, a bit of a to-do ensued.

Liquid refreshment was desired. A purchase was attempted…….but……as Serbia has its own currency (just like every other country we were visiting this trip), people were scrambling to put together enough euros, which were more widely accepted, to close the deal. Fortunately, Miloš came to the rescue. He and another PD were dining nearby. They saw/heard the commotion/struggle and came to the rescue with euros/dinars and saved the day/evening.

We headed back to the ship.
