As it was close to noon, we were able to get into our rooms upon arrival. After a little unpacking, a little refreshing and a little resting, we joined our Program Manager, Miloš, for our first Discovery Walk: a circuitous stroll of the hotel’s neighborhood. Getting our first taste of Bucharest, we learned of the nearest grocery store, the nearest ATM, and the nearest of our Program Director’s top four dining suggestions before he returned us to the Sheraton.
After a small cash withdrawal (just in case), Rob and I took up seats at the hotel’s bar for our first taste of a Romanian beer. Here, we met fellow journeyman, Josh, who was likewise seeking a cold brew.

The evening was capped with a buffet dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. To our surprise, despite being served buffet-style, the food was well-presented, abundant, well-prepared, and quite tasty. (Unlike many such meals, the food was not overcooked to within an inch of its palatability!)
Sated (read: stuffed), we retreated to our third floor room to catch up on lost Zzzz’s in preparation for our first full day in southeastern Europe.
